Unit 3 - Final Piece Re-Submission

Re-submission of my final piece for the Unit 3 project. I changed the lighting to make my room to look more 3D than it did before. Also, now it has shadowing in it, this makes it look more uncanny.

Unit 4 - Influence Maps 4

Robotic Octopus Arms Influence Map

Inventor's Hair Influence Map

Inventor's Goggles Influence Map

Inventor's Clothing Influence Map

I would have to say, I adore the goggles with the hypnotic look to them as it gives off a crazy look. I would change the colour of the goggles to green, dunno why but it shows more of the craziness than the red does.

The clothing for the inventor needs to be a lab coat, white shirt and bowtie. It gives it a inventor look. The bowtie might need to have a red pattern to it. Having it black is too much of a boring colour.

As what Dmitrij suggested, giving my inventor robotic octopus like arms seem to be a good way of showing that he needs more hands to create his inventions.

The hair has to be messy, to show that the inventor had some accidents when trying to get his inventions to work. Having a beard would look weird so I'm not going to add that.

Unit 4 - Rope (1948)

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Two young men by the name of Brandon and Philip murdered their class mate, David, and hid his body in an old chest in their apartment. However, Rupert, their class teacher, starts to suspect during the small party when Brandon starts to become more daring and Philip starts to get more nervous and guilty.

The film has no editing invloved at all and the film strip they used can only last for 6 or 10 minutes. This made me loose interest in the film but what really gets me is that when the film strip is about to run out, they do a close up to someone's back or an object so that they can quickly change the film strip with a new one so that they can continue.

As I lost interest with this film, I realised the uneasiness of what the film contains. It's like having the feeling of guilt that Philip has in the film, making him feel unease of the situation of murdering David. However, the guilt didn't went worse to those who are watching it but the character himself by the use of questions that made Rupert start to suspect.

"Hitchcock shot the film in a series of long takes of 9 to 11 minutes each, not moving the camera from the set"
(theowinthrop; 2004)

Every new film strip the movie uses, the lighting of the environment outside changes bit by bit, making it look like time has passed.

Unit 4 - Influence Maps 3

Character Influence Map Part 1

Character Influence Map Part 2

Character Influence Map Part 3

Using the influences here. I have found the right inventor for my story telling project. The character will have robotic spider legs, to show that the character is an inventor. The spider monkey shows what the character will be like and also, they are quite similar to a human being by their genes. Pictures of different inventors gives me a rough idea on what type of clothing they wear.

I will do the character in different ways to give me a variety of choices to pick from.

Unit 4 - Influence Maps 2

Light Bulb Influence Map

Barrel Influence Map

Cardboard Box Influence Map

These are the items to go with the environment but has no role in the storyboard.

Unit 4 - Influence Maps 1

Deck Chair Influence Map

Cellar Influence Map

I have not yet started with the character's influence map as I don't know if he/she should be a hybrid or a human being. I was thinking of my character on being a hybrid, if I can find a certain animal which suits to be an inventor by it's instincts, kinda. Suggestions of what animal is suitable to be an inventor are welcome.

Unit 4 - Story Telling

Environment: Cellar

Character: Inventor

Object: Deck Chair

These are the three things I got to create my Storyboard with as well as the script.

For my environment and object, I will use a certain style to make them look uncanny. The character will be created using my very own style, not the style my environment and object will be in. This will make it look like the character it's not apart of the environment itself.
