Hey Naomi,

Okay - I have mixed feelings about your concept. On one level, I do like the Caligari-esque distortions of your room - BUT, in terms of 'the uncanny' and creating an ambiguous image, I'd suggest that the strong stylisation of this scene means that it is too cartoony and illustrative, and therefore CANNOT create any discomfort or 'visual itch'. It is not 'about' the world, or about environments that we know or have had some experience of. The non-realism of this idea means that it cannot be really strange in the 'uncanny' sense. There might be ways that you can take an ordinary chair in an ordinary room and make the 'ordinariness' the strange element; you can use lighting and camera position to achieve an unsettling or somehow ominous effect?

My advice is this, therefore - you need to bring your style back from Tim Burton etc. and let 'realism' create the strangeness you're after. I do like the minimalism of your scene, however.
